
Allāh concludes surah al-Kahf [18] by saying:
[ فَمَن كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاءَ رَبِّهِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا ]
“So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord – let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone.” [110]
Shaykh Falah al-Mundakar commented on this by saying:
[فانظر كيف ربط الله بين الرجاء وبين العمل ، فالرجاء المحمود هو أن ترغب وتتطلع إلى حصول المنافع في الدنيا والآخرة مع العمل ومع السعي والاجتهاد والجد في بذل الأسباب الشرعية والاسباب التي تؤدي إلى ذلك المأمول . ـ]
Look how Allāh linked hope with deeds. The praiseworthy type of hope is to long for and look forward to attaining beneficial things in this life and the next while also working, striving, and exerting oneself in the legislated means and pathways which will produce that desired end.
